Everything Stops For Tea

March 20, 2009

I do not claim to be an expert in the arena of photography, but every so often, I see something that renders me awe-stricken. “Everything Stops for Tea”, a series by Mel Bagshaw and Marta Ovod, makes my list. Mel has stated “the fashion industry, and images that support it, have a duty to reflect social and political concerns”, and I couldn’t agree more! His sentiment is noticeably evident in this series, which explores the experience of being British in a multicultural society in a more fascinating way than I have ever witnessed.

Despite the more serious agenda, the photos are vibrant, eccentric, and very uniquely styled. Their clever use of colors, shapes, fabrics and textures leaves no photo upstaging another. I am excited to see what thought provoking concepts they will conjure up for their next exhibitions. For more of Mel’s work visit and for more of Marta’s visit

Thank you for producing a well written piece about our work. Also enjoyed reading your other articles. Good to read a positive blog after reading so many poorly written rants.
